“The hot dog New Yorkers relish!” One can’t travel to NYC or other large eastern seaboard cities without seeing the ubiquitous blue and yellow flag or umbrella over a corner push-cart hawking Sabrett’s famous hot dogs. Around since 1916, the Sabrett’s line is available from hot dog carts, convenience stores, delis nationwide, but still a… Continue reading Sabretts in Portland!

Random Wednesday Thoughts
If you can’t live without a “hot dog cooker”, here’s a goofy one (pictured below) on Cooking.com. A mere $32.95. Someone directed me to Builtburger.com this morning. They will deliver specially seasoned 6 oz burgers to your house, for an average of $50 plus shipping. I think that comes out to about $28 a pound.… Continue reading Random Wednesday Thoughts
Portland, OR – Superdog
Stopped in to the Superdog Park Avenue location for lunch today, was there at 11:01AM, one minute past opening bell. Ordered their chili cheese dog, which is atop a fatty skinless Nathan’s, and the server apologized for the chili not being hot yet, so she would put it in the microwave. Regretfully, she ladled it onto… Continue reading Portland, OR – Superdog
Portland – Zach’s Shack
“Hot” dog was right! Zach’s was suffering from a lack of A/C today, I pity the fool working in the kitchen. Zach’s offers a variety of pre-dressed dogs, or buy ’em plain ($3.00) and design your own. Zach’s menu says ” Zach’s Shack Hot Dogs are All beef dogs with a natural casing.” (sic). I… Continue reading Portland – Zach’s Shack
Portland – Hot Dog Ernie
Ernie apparently plys his trade at local events, today he was at the Mt Tabor fete, hawking dogs, polish and Louisiana red hots. His dogs were Nathan’s skinless, which he kept in a warm bath, moved to a hotter bath when you ordered, and finished with a slight char. Nothing special, but enjoyable. $3.50.
UPS Brings A Treat!
My shipment of casings came today. I’ll be making weenies this weekend! (And an Italian sausage or two!)
Lawmakers Gobble Dogs
More than 1100 lawmakers, lobbyists, staffers and members of the media gathered yday in DC for the annual Hot Dog Lunch, one of the more popular events of the summer in the district. Put on by the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council (you didn’t even know there WAS such a thing, LOL), the council… Continue reading Lawmakers Gobble Dogs
Portland – Otto’s Sausage Kitchen – Portland Hot Dog
“Been there, done that, got a t-shirt,” as they say. I love Otto’s, and what better place to celebrate National Hot Dog day?!?!? You pick your meat and they flop it on the grill outside. I opted for two of Otto’s “old-fashioned” wieners, which are nicely spiced, and I’d call them medium-sized (maybe 5 to… Continue reading Portland – Otto’s Sausage Kitchen – Portland Hot Dog
