I wrote about the advent of 7-Eleven pizzas a few weeks ago. I thought it seemed like a good place to get my fix, especially since it would be 1) cheap, 2) available 24 hpurs, 3) available everywhere. At least two of those ideas turned out to be true; it’s not available at my neighborhood… Continue reading 7-Eleven Pizza Test
Portland, OR – Cameo Cafe East
Can you picture this? Take a bit of a Victorian tea room, a bit of country cafe, a bit of a traditional diner, and a bit of a Korean restaurant – and you have Cameo Cafe East at 8111 NE Sandy, in Portland. I met a friend for breakfast, but Cameo servers their entire menu… Continue reading Portland, OR – Cameo Cafe East
Beaverton, OR – Big Red’s Western Cafe (Yawn)
A non-descript place serving non-descript food. I was there at 1PM on a weekday, and was the only one in the dining room for half my visit – then in came a father with three kids in tow. The only reason for my visit was I was wasting time waiting on an appointment, the place… Continue reading Beaverton, OR – Big Red’s Western Cafe (Yawn)
Portland, OR – Cheesesteak & Burgers Cart, Courthouse Sq. (Snore)
Oh, come on guys, let’s at least try! A friend of mine was carping about this cart the other day, and how they put shredded lettuce on their burgers, which he finds distasteful. I concur. But what I found more distasteful about this operator, was a) pre-cooked food service patties warmed on the grill, b)… Continue reading Portland, OR – Cheesesteak & Burgers Cart, Courthouse Sq. Portland, OR – Beez Neez
Thank god for the Food Carts of Portland people. Their site tells me what’s new, and their commentary does a little pre-screening for me. I can (mostly) skip the bad stuff. The other day, they were talking about Beez Neez, a new cart on the 3rd Street pod. “Reindeer sausage”, said they. This I had… Continue reading Portland, OR – Beez Neez
Home Cookin’ Day
Home-bound for a couple days called for home burgers. Winco 80/20 ground beef, 1/3 pound hand-formed patty, pan-fried on cast iron, buttered, toasted delicious cornmeal-dusted bun from Wheat Montana, Farmhouse Brand Thick Bacon, shredded Tillamook Sharp Cheddar, house-cured kosher dills, home grown Walla Walla onion, and French’s Yellow Mustard. Superb. And no tipping!
Portland, OR – Laurelhurst Market
From the guys who brought us Simpaticaand Viande Meat Market, Laurelhurst is a meat market by day (literally), and a restaurant by night. With one of the most interesting dinner menus around, and access to their own butcher shop, Laurelhurst cooks up some interesting apps and entrees nightly from 5pm. On a Saturday night there… Continue reading Portland, OR – Laurelhurst Market
I Think Jack-in-the-Box is Funnin’ Us!
Went to check out the mini angus burgers today, they come three in a box, combo meal about five and a half bucks. While the patty tastes good on its own, staring at them, I first thought, “these must be hand-formed with their irregular shape.” I kept thinking about it, and looking at all three… Continue reading I Think Jack-in-the-Box is Funnin’ Us!
Where 7-Eleven Sandwiches Come From
For as great a food town as Portland is, when it comes to middle of the night dining…Portland comes up very short. There’s a couple of Denny’s, and one or two taverns with bar menus…..we don’t even have a truck stop unless you’re willing to drive a half hour or so. So middle of the… Continue reading Where 7-Eleven Sandwiches Come From
Ask Me About My 10″ Wiener
That’s what the t-shirts from Bro Dogs read. Does size matter when it comes to your weenie? I’ve never been one for foot longs, at least at home, because it’s so hard to find buns. I know of one store locally that has them “almost regularly”, but not often enough that I’d want to purchase… Continue reading Ask Me About My 10″ Wiener
