An annual event growing in popularity with each year, the Red Rock Radio Grill Wars allows burger afficionadi\u00a0\u00a0to sample Duluth, MN’s finest burgers while raising money for the \u00a0local Boys and Girls Club<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Held on the lakefront on August 14, sponsored by local radio station KQDS<\/a>,(1) \u00a0the event saw burgers cooked up by\u00a0The Adolph Store<\/a>, Dubh Linn Irish Pub<\/a>, Farley\u2019s Family Restaurant<\/a>, The Green Mill<\/a>, McKenzie\u2019s<\/a>, Superior Meats<\/a>, Timberlodge Steakhouse<\/a>,\u00a0The Other Place Bar<\/a>\u00a0, Twig Bakery<\/a>, Grandma\u2019s Saloon<\/a>, Canal Park Brewery<\/a>, 7 West Taphouse <\/a>and others.<\/p>\n

Thousands of participants stood in line for hours to sample the goods, for a nominal donation of a buck a burger. Many of the restaurants underestimated the potential size of the crowd and ran out early; more astute establishments started cutting the burgers in half early on, so as not to disappoint the samplers, and to do as much as they could for the Boys and Girls Club. Some purveyors served over 3000 patties within a few short hours.<\/p>\n

All participants, on both sides of the grill(s) seemed happy with event, it will surely be expanded next year. \u00a0One thing you will notice from these photos, a lot of nice looking hand-formed patties on the fires. \u00a0No sysco-type frozen pucks for this crowd!<\/p>\n
