If we took the &#8216;back road&#8217; (Wisconsin highway 13, which meandered along the south shore of Lake Superior, occasionally we&#8217;d stop on the way home at a little place in Port Wing, Wisconsin for a nosh.<\/p>\n<p>A little closer to Bayfield is the burg of Cornucopia, Wisconsin, home of the <a href=\"http:\/\/villageinncornucopia.com\/?110000\">Village Inn<\/a>. Serving a full menu, three meals, the VI buys and supports local ranchers and farmers.<\/p>\n<p>Kawika and Minnesota&#8217;s favorite entertainer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toddeckart.com\/\">Todd Eckart<\/a>, took a mental health day, drove down to Cornucopia, and had a relaxing meal lake side.<\/p>\n<p>Sampled were the Kim Chee burger, with locally made (!?!?) kim chee from nearby <a href=\"http:\/\/spiritcreekfarm.com\/About%20Us.html\">Spirit Creek Farms,<\/a> who specialize in fermented vegetables. \u00a0The burger is <a href=\"http:\/\/siskowitgalloways.com\/beef.html\">locally raised grass fed Galloway beef<\/a> , available in local stores, topped with the kim chee, lettuce and tomato. \u00a0Served with house-made chips on the side.<\/p>\n<p>Local fresh whitefish can be served broiled or fried, with house-made soup or salad, and a choice of starch.<\/p>\n<p>The menu is full of interesting twists on local favorite. \u00a0Looks like a fun place, and some great grub.<\/p>\n<p>To get to the Village Inn from Duluth, head East on US Highway 2 through Superior, take the Wisconsin 13 (South) exit, and motor out 49 miles to Corncucopia.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9763\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9763\" style=\"width: 614px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/photo-5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-9763 \" alt=\"Village Inn Corncucopia WI\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/photo-5-1024x682.jpg\" width=\"614\" height=\"409\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9763\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kim Chee Burger<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9765\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9765\" style=\"width: 614px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/photo-7.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-9765 \" alt=\"Village Inn Cornucopia Wisconsin\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/photo-7-1024x682.jpg\" width=\"614\" height=\"409\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9765\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Broiled Whitefish with house made chips<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/r\/322\/1317992\/restaurant\/Wisconsin\/Village-Inn-Cornucopia\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none; padding: 0px; width: 200px; height: 146px;\" alt=\"Village Inn on Urbanspoon\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/b\/link\/1317992\/biglink.gif\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Village Inn Cornucopia Wisconsin restaurant reviews<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My family used to go skiing most weekends during Minnesota winters; one of our most frequent stops was a little place called Mount Ashwabay, near Bayfield, Wisconsin, the gateway to the Apostle Islands National Park.
