{"id":9246,"date":"2013-06-14T09:06:40","date_gmt":"2013-06-14T16:06:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=9246"},"modified":"2013-06-14T09:06:40","modified_gmt":"2013-06-14T16:06:40","slug":"chicago-il-uncle-sammys-sandwiches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=9246","title":{"rendered":"Chicago, IL &#8211; Uncle Sammy&#8217;s Sandwiches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are what \u2013 40,000 Subway sandwich places in the world.\u00a0 The franchised brand name one, not including other chains, Quiznos, Jimmy Joe Bob\u2019s or whatever that one is.\u00a0\u00a0 Yet \u201cindependents\u201d keep springing up and competing.<\/p>\n<p>Like Uncle Sammy\u2019s Sandwich Classics, in Chicago.\u00a0 Uncle Sammy\u2019s is in Lincoln Park, the first neighborhood I ever lived in Chicago.\u00a0 I was at the corner of Lincoln and Wells, Old Town, a few years too late for the hippie fest that went on there, and a few years too early for Belushi and all the pros of his era marching through Second City, just down the block.<\/p>\n<p>No matter.<\/p>\n<p>Uncle Sammy\u2019s is described by Time Out Magazine of one of Chicago\u2019s six great sandwich shops.\u00a0\u00a0 They\u2019re open late, and offering a pretty limited menu, a handful of fresh made subs, chips, and brownies.\u00a0 They do catering, meaning, they will deliver quantities of box lunches to your workplace.<\/p>\n<p>Such was the occasion that I got to sample Uncle Sammy\u2019s \u201cLittle Italy\u201d sandwich.\u00a0 A friend of mine had a truck load of the sandwiches delivered to her work, and I got the left overs.<\/p>\n<p>The Little Italy has a little kick to it, with Genoa salami, capicola, prosciutto, provolone, lettuce, tomato, vinaigrette, and a little giardiniera.<\/p>\n<p>The bread was incredible fresh, the meats were tasty, extremely thin sliced, and I personally think there could have been more filling.<\/p>\n<p>But it is a good sandwich.\u00a0 One of Chicago\u2019s six best?\u00a0 Hard to say, and I won\u2019t get around to making that determination in this lifetime, for sure!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/r\/2\/17511\/restaurant\/Lincoln-Park\/Uncle-Sammys-Chicago\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none; padding: 0px; width: 200px; height: 146px;\" alt=\"Uncle Sammy's on Urbanspoon\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/b\/link\/17511\/biglink.gif\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are what \u2013 40,000 Subway sandwich places in the world.\u00a0 The franchised brand name one, not including other chains, Quiznos, Jimmy Joe Bob\u2019s or whatever that one is.\u00a0\u00a0 Yet \u201cindependents\u201d keep springing up and competing.
