{"id":9222,"date":"2013-06-08T15:01:21","date_gmt":"2013-06-08T22:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=9222"},"modified":"2013-06-08T15:01:21","modified_gmt":"2013-06-08T22:01:21","slug":"sycamore-il-country-store-catering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=9222","title":{"rendered":"Sycamore, IL &#8211; The Country Store and Catering"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Small towns delight me, and especially in the Deep South or Upper Midwest. \u00a0You can drive around almost any corner, and find a gem of a surprise, whether it&#8217;s a small town festival, a jewel of a piece of architecture, a funky shop, or a surprise of a restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Burgerdogboy and I hit one last year by accident, we were driving down US 101 in California, feeling a bit hungry, and I said out loud &#8220;at the next exit we will pull off and there will be some cool small town thing happening, and we will eat there.&#8221; \u00a0 The town was Paso Robles, and it was the &#8220;Barbecue Fest in the Park&#8221;, which was a little short on fest, and a little short on BBQ, but we, and the newest member of our family, our beautiful dog &#8220;Liv&#8221;, had a great time.<\/p>\n<p>Tooling around outstate Illinois today, I was looking for one place, and ended up at another. \u00a0One of those places the car automatically slams on the brakes because of an aroma in the air.<\/p>\n<p>Today it was the smoke from an outdoor barbecue, and the place is called &#8220;The Country Store and Catering&#8221; in Sycamore, IL. \u00a0More of a butcher counter than anything, the retail portion is full of house-made sausages and smoked meats. \u00a0 But behind the register, there&#8217;s a sign with their grilled meats available as sandwiches, and I went with a &#8216;seasoned butterflied pork chop&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Served on a hamburger bun with your choice of a whole host of condiments, including six different barbecue sauces, this is one fine sandwich, and one great piece of meat.<\/p>\n<p>Clear blue summer skies, great barbecue, pastoral countryside, the kind of stop Mrs. Burgerdogboy and Liv would have really enjoyed. \u00a0But they couldn&#8217;t make this trip. \u00a0Maybe next time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/20130608_134540.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9223 aligncenter\" alt=\"Country Store Sycamore IL\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/20130608_134540.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"290\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/r\/271\/1756580\/restaurant\/Rockford\/The-Country-Store-Sycamore\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none; padding: 0px; width: 200px; height: 146px;\" alt=\"The Country Store on Urbanspoon\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/b\/link\/1756580\/biglink.gif\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Small towns delight me, and especially in the Deep South or Upper Midwest. \u00a0You can drive around almost any corner, and find a gem of a surprise, whether it&#8217;s a small town festival, a jewel of a piece of architecture, a funky shop, or a surprise of a restaurant.
