{"id":9084,"date":"2013-05-18T12:14:51","date_gmt":"2013-05-18T19:14:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=9084"},"modified":"2013-05-18T12:14:51","modified_gmt":"2013-05-18T19:14:51","slug":"oscar-meyer-selects-angus-smoked-uncured-beef-franks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=9084","title":{"rendered":"Oscar Meyer Selects Angus Smoked Uncured Beef Franks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Whoa, that&#8217;s a long name. \u00a0Saw these the other day for the first time, when I was in the hunt for my usual brands, premium casing dogs like Usingers or Vienna Beef.<\/p>\n<p>These were $3.99, for a 14 oz, 8 frank package; \u00a0they are bun length, and a bit redder in color than most grocery store dogs.<\/p>\n<p>Ingredient list, and what a relief not to see &#8220;mechanically separated turkey and chicken&#8221; as one runs into so often lately: \u00a0Angus beef, water, dextrose, cultured celery juice, vinegar, sodium phosphates, cherry powder, lemon juice solids, flavors, extractives of paprika.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s pretty normal stuff. \u00a0 Dextrose is a simple sugar found in plants, generally used in the curing process of meats, but these are uncured, so it is most likely a flavor enhancer. \u00a0Sodium phosphate is used as a preservative instead of nitrates. Dextrose contributes to fermentation which creates some portions of flavor. \u00a0All the rest is what it is!<\/p>\n<p>As to putting &#8220;Angus Beef&#8221; on a label? \u00a080% of beef cattle in the US are Angus, so that&#8217;s not a premium point. \u00a0I understand that &#8220;Certified Angus&#8221; is a big deal, if you see that on labels.<\/p>\n<p>Point? \u00a0They&#8217;re tasty. \u00a0And for being a skinless dog, I&#8217;d put them on my &#8216;regular&#8217; list. \u00a0With all beef franks, I usually get Nathan&#8217;s or Hebrew, but now I have a third choice.<\/p>\n<p>And moms? \u00a0Remember to dice the dogs if feeding them to toddlers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/oscar-meye.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9085\" alt=\"oscar meye\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/oscar-meye.png\" width=\"506\" height=\"452\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Whoa, that&#8217;s a long name. \u00a0Saw these the other day for the first time, when I was in the hunt for my usual brands, premium casing dogs like Usingers or Vienna Beef.
