Kabul House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s one of those places where most \u201creviewers\u201d are not going to be able to find fault;\u00a0 nor will your average customer who walks in off the street.<\/p>\n<p>Affable hosts, prompt service, delicious food, artfully presented, and a fair price.\u00a0 That\u2019s the story at Kabul House on Oakton Street in Skokie.<\/p>\n<p>A soothing atmosphere with linen tablecloths and napkins is the perfect setting to sample a wide variety of the cuisine of Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant has been around for quite some time, but has been in various locations around the North Shore;\u00a0 the Skokie location is the newest and nicest.<\/p>\n<p>They bill themselves as \u201cChicago\u2019s only authentic Afghani restaurant\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 I have no way of knowing if that is true or not, of course, but I do know the food is spot on to other Afghan dining experiences I have had outside of the US.<\/p>\n<p>We opened the experience with hot cardamom tea all around, which was both delicious and palate cleansing;\u00a0 on to lentil soup, with was hot, thick, with just a hint of spice.<\/p>\n<p>For appetizers, we shared the \u201cMantoo\u201d, steamed dumplings stuffed with seasoned ground beef and plated very attractively with a tomato based sauce and yogurt, and split the vegetarian platter entr\u00e9e as another starter, a plate of saut\u00e9ed spinach , eggplant, cauliflower, and pumpkin.\u00a0\u00a0 If you\u2019re a regular reader, you know how much I enjoy <a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?s=dumpling&amp;x=-938&amp;y=-36\">dumplings<\/a> in any form, and the same goes for cooked spinach.<\/p>\n<p>For my entr\u00e9e,\u00a0 I opted for the Koubideh,\u00a0 seasoned ground beef skewers or kabobs (yes, I seek out hamburgers\u00a0 in any shape!) , with grilled vegetables.\u00a0 All entrees come with a choice of three styles of rice, a seasoned version, plain white, or dill.\u00a0 I went with the dill, enjoyed it very much.\u00a0\u00a0 The other diners in the party enjoyed the shrimp kabobs, and the chicken kabob entrees.<\/p>\n<p>I generally pass on dessert, but my companions raved about the rosewater and cardamom ice cream, made in-house.<\/p>\n<p>Tea, two appetizers, three entrees, two desserts, two coffee, less than fifty bucks.<\/p>\n<p>I generally don\u2019t look at other reviews on line, but I was curious about how Kabul House fared, because my experience was so divine;\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t surprised that the majority of reviews I saw paralleled my own experience.<\/p>\n<p>This family deserves your business, and all the success that life in the free world promises.\u00a0 I\u2019m happy to have had the experience of dining here.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8916\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8916\" style=\"width: 448px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/kabul1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8916\" alt=\"Kabul House Skokie\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/kabul1.png\" width=\"448\" height=\"309\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8916\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lentil Soup<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8917\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8917\" style=\"width: 411px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/kabul2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8917\" alt=\"Kabul House Skokie\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/kabul2.png\" width=\"411\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8917\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Steamed beef filled dumplings<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8919\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8919\" style=\"width: 448px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/kabul4.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8919\" alt=\"Kabul House Skokie\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/kabul4.png\" width=\"448\" height=\"256\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8919\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ground beef skewers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/r\/2\/1579181\/restaurant\/Chicago\/Kabul-House-Skokie\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none;
