I am kinda tired of the word \u201cfresh.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Also, if you\u2019re counting, \u201cnew,\u201d\u00a0 \u201cbut wait..\u201d, \u201cnatural\u201d, and \u201cyou may have won.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boardwalk<\/a> originated on the Atlantic City boardwalk (New Jersey), selling \u201cfresh, hot fries\u201d.\u00a0 Period. \u00a0They launched a couple other locations, and recently, went into the franchised burger and fry biz.\u00a0 Excited yet?\u00a0 Me, too!\u00a0\u00a0 Because lord knows there ain\u2019t enough burger franchises.<\/p>\n

I recently hit their Tigard, Oregon, location, in a strip mall a mile and a half from the nearest interstate.\u00a0 No street signage, other than an occasional blip on the mall\u2019s electronic sign, so it\u2019s in one of those locations where you would have to be seeking it out, or find by accident.<\/p>\n

(Spoiler alert, I have an attitude today).<\/p>\n

I went to try their signature fries.\u00a0 They come in three sizes, which are all ample portions, I conservatively chose the medium at $3.19, and it was too large for me to finish.\u00a0 \u201cSides\u201d are available, a \u201ccup\u201d (and we use that word loosely) of chili, cheese, or brown gravy at .75 a pop.\u00a0 I went with the gravy.<\/p>\n

The fries are \u201cfresh\u201d cut, and fried to a light crisp, with a modicum of salt.\u00a0 On the condiment stand, in addition to ketchup, Boardwalk offers apple cider vinegar, Old Bay Seasoning, and Cajun seasoning, all at no extra charge.<\/p>\n

The fries were pretty good. Better than 90% of most fast food fries.\u00a0\u00a0 They went well with ketchup, for me, the apple cider vinegar was too much, might be an East coast specialty, not sure, I\u2019m more used to malt vinegar with fries.\u00a0 It was nice to have access to Old Bay, which I personally like; you\u2019ll find it common to seafood places up and down the eastern seaboard.\u00a0\u00a0 Most homes in the Northeast have a can at the ready.\u00a0 A peculiarity of Old Bay is it tends to cake in the can, so serving sizes can end up being a surprise.\u00a0 I am guessing it doesn\u2019t contain as much (????) as my usual savory seasoning, Tony Chachere\u2019s<\/a>.\u00a0 No matter.\u00a0 It worked with the fries, and the fries with ketchup, not so much with the gravy or vinegar.<\/p>\n

The brown gravy is\u2026\u2026\u2026well, here\u2019s one of those phrases I hate\u2026.\u00a0 It is what it is.\u00a0 Doesn\u2019t taste as \u201cfloury\u201d as most commercial preparations, but does have that under taste of \u201cbeef flavoring,\u201d\u00a0 as one would experience in a soup base or bullion.<\/p>\n

It\u2019d be good in larger quantities with the requisite squeaky cheese curds to grow up to become a full-fledged poutaine.\u00a0 That I\u2019d like.<\/p>\n
