{"id":8180,"date":"2012-10-20T14:57:47","date_gmt":"2012-10-20T21:57:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=8180"},"modified":"2012-10-20T14:57:47","modified_gmt":"2012-10-20T21:57:47","slug":"harbors-mn-splashing-rock-restaurant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=8180","title":{"rendered":"Two Harbors, MN &#8211; Splashing Rock Restaurant"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_8190\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8190\" style=\"width: 240px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/splash4.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-8190 \" title=\"splash4\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/splash4-300x200.png\" alt=\"Splashing Rock Restaurant\" width=\"240\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8190\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">View from the dining room<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A couple hours before the end of the road immortalized by Bob Dylan, US Highway 61 takes you through Two Harbors, a burg of 3500 that saw its rise (and decline) parallel Minnesota&#8217;s \u00a0 mining industry.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll run into the Grand Superior Lodge and Splashing Rock Restaurant a few miles out of Two Harbors, but before <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gooseberry_Falls\">Gooseberry Falls<\/a> and<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Split_Rock_Lighthouse\"> Split Rock Lighthouse<\/a>. \u00a0It sits on the shores of the big lake they call\u00a0<a title=\"Gitche Gumee\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lake_Superior\">Gitche Gumee<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kawika and the Minnesota Burger posse headed to Splashing Rock to sample the burgers, of course.<\/p>\n<p>They started with the appetizer sampler, bruschetta, artichoke crab cheese bake with pita points, beer battered whitefish and a wild game satay. \u00a0The satay is duck breast, boar sausage and wapiti in a soy\/citrus marinade, and grilled.<\/p>\n<p>On to the burgers, Kawika went with the Rock Burger, one\u00a0half-pound (ground in-house) burger topped with apple wood-smoked\u00a0bacon, cheddar cheese and our celebrated Kentucky\u00a0Bourbon BBQ sauce, served on an onion bun.
