{"id":7508,"date":"2012-11-21T11:06:17","date_gmt":"2012-11-21T19:06:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=7508"},"modified":"2012-11-21T11:06:17","modified_gmt":"2012-11-21T19:06:17","slug":"lacombe-la-sal-judys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=7508","title":{"rendered":"Lacombe, LA &#8211; Sal &#038; Judy&#8217;s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/sal-and-judys.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-8423\" title=\"sal and judys\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/sal-and-judys-150x150.png\" alt=\"Sal &amp; Judy's Lacombe Louisiana\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>\u00a0(From our travel archives) Sal Impastato is from Sicily &#8211; having come to a America as a young man 50 years ago, and worked in restaurants in NOLA and TX, Sal finally got to open his own place several decades ago &#8211; on a quiet country road in Lacombe, Louisiana.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">&#8220;People&#8221; say &#8220;Italian&#8221; in New Orleans and thoughts usually go to <a href=\"http:\/\/moscasrestaurant.com\/\">Mosca&#8217;s<\/a>, on the West Bank.\u00a0 Lacombe is probably the same distance or a little bit longer, in the opposite direction, but light years apart in their food, preparation, and service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">It was my first visit to Sal and Judy&#8217;s, and it was memorable, to say the least, because I was a guest of the owners, and ate in the kitchen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">And I am here to tell ya &#8211; me, &#8220;mr. I seldom use superlatives,&#8221;\u00a0 Sal and Judy&#8217;s is incredible.\u00a0 We plowed through the menu with abandon, sampling numerous appetizers and entrees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">Starters included crab claws in a cream\/lemon\/wine sauce; baked oysters with Italian sausage; a crab stuffed giant &#8220;cannoli&#8221; sauce piece of pasta with creamy cheese sauce.\u00a0 Entrees ranged the gambit &#8211; lemon breaded veal, pasta with red gravy, seasoned rib eye steak, and at that point I either lost count or consciousness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">Waiting for my host earlier, I had sat at the bar for a few moments, and listened to the phone ring time after time, and here the reservationist say &#8220;No, sorry, sold out that night,&#8221; or &#8220;sorry, the only seating we have that night is at 5PM,&#8221; and similar remarks.\u00a0 You have to plan ahead to go to Sal &amp; Judy&#8217;s, and it is a plan worth making.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">They have a private room as well for your (smaller) events, and I believe, but am not sure, they do some catering.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">&#8220;Best Italian in New Orleans.&#8221;\u00a0 No question.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">Some Sal &amp; Judy&#8217;s products are available in your local grocery, including a half dozen pasta sauces, a few salad dressings, and olive salad.\u00a0 All are the exact same product you will find at the restaurant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">Sal &amp; Judy&#8217;s is at 27491 Highway 190 West, in Lacombe, LA.
