(It\u2019s behind Borders in Metairie).<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s one of those places that locals say is the \u201cbest\u2026\u201d of whatever \u2013 in this case, fried catfish is the order of the day, so they say.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Vodanovich family opened the restaurant in 1928 and moved to its present location in \u201985.\u00a0\u00a0The recipes have stayed the same since day one.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s not much variety on the menu, and fried or broiled seafood is what people flock to the burbs for.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s different about Bozo\u2019s catfish?\u00a0\u00a0For one thing, they claim to serve only \u201cnatural\u201d cat (not pond raised) and if you\u2019ve had both, you know the difference.\u00a0\u00a0For another, there\u2019s no intermingling of fry oil at Bozo\u2019s \u2013 fish, oysters, shrimp and fries each deserve their own fryer.<\/p>\n<p>Fried seafood comes in a corn-meal batter (what else?), but it\u2019s a bit \u2018coarser\u2019 than many other outlets.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The result is that the fish and seafood retain more of their own moisture, IMHO.<\/p>\n<p>Someone had said that the shrimp were \u201cpeculiar,\u201d but I found them delightful, plump, butterflied before frying, and tailless.\u00a0\u00a0The waiter will happily bring seafood cocktail sauce components, so you can mix to your own liking.<\/p>\n<p>Starch choice is fries or a loaded baked.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0All this fried food, I would have liked some coleslaw, for both the texture and the vinegar, but alas, it\u2019s not one of Bozo\u2019s offerings.<\/p>\n<p>Seafood platters run in the $10 &#8211; $14 range, certainly less than the \u201cbig name\u201d places in the West End \u2013 just as filling, and not the m\u00e9lange of flavors that Deanie\u2019s or Syd Mars might offer.<\/p>\n<p>Bozo\u2019s cooks to order, so be prepared to wait (after you wait to get a table).<\/p>\n<p>Ambience is non-existent, service is satisfactory, but I doubt either of those two aspects are reasons why people keep returning over and over.<\/p>\n<p>Bozo\u2019s; 3117 21st St., Metairie, 831-8666.\u00a0\u00a0Reservations every night except Friday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/r\/57\/620190\/restaurant\/New-Orleans\/Fat-City\/Bozos-Seafood-Metairie\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none; padding: 0px; width: 200px; height: 146px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/b\/link\/620190\/biglink.gif\" alt=\"Bozo's Seafood on Urbanspoon\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(From our archives) Went to Bozo\u2019s in Metairie tonight, had been meaning to get there.\u00a0\u00a0A bit hard to find if you don\u2019t know exactly where it is, and very little signage when you are right on top of it.
