{"id":6349,"date":"2011-11-12T06:58:57","date_gmt":"2011-11-12T14:58:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=6349"},"modified":"2011-11-12T06:58:57","modified_gmt":"2011-11-12T14:58:57","slug":"home-cookin-digiorno-cheese-stuffed-crust","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=6349","title":{"rendered":"Home Cookin&#8217; &#8211; DiGiorno Cheese Stuffed Crust"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/digorn2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-6351\" title=\"digorn2\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/digorn2-300x281.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"235\" \/><\/a>&#8220;It&#8217;s Not Delivery, It&#8217;s DiGiorno&#8221;\u00a0 state the commercials for this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nestle.com\/Media\/PressReleases\/Pages\/AllPressRelease.aspx?Name=FrozenPizzaBusiness&amp;PressReleaseYear=2010&amp;Title=Nestl%C3%A9%20completes%20acquisition%20of%20Kraft%20Foods\">Nestle <\/a>product.\u00a0\u00a0Hmmm.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve had lots of delivered pizzas that became fleeting, one-time events in my life, and if DiGiorno wants to be placed into that category, I&#8217;m happy to\u00a0oblige them.<\/p>\n<p>I purchased the\u00a0&#8220;bacon, sausage, and pepperoni&#8221; topped version of this pie, and the packaging has a couple of new\u00a0&#8216;brag points&#8217; printed on it:\u00a0 &#8220;Now with 33% more meat,&#8221; and &#8220;With the Great Taste of Garlic.&#8221;\u00a0 \u00a0I say &#8220;YAY!&#8221; for the garlic, but question &#8220;33% more meat&#8221; (than what?)<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve reviewed a DiGiorno product before (<a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/2010\/01\/home-test-digiorno-crispy-flatbread-pizza\/\">Flatbread Pizza<\/a>) and liked it.\u00a0\u00a0 This one?\u00a0 Not so much.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s wrong with it?\u00a0 Well, in\u00a0a word, nothing.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a product produced to be as inoffensive to the public as possible, and therefore, in my opinion, that company mandate makes the food as bland and without uniqueness as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Crust &#8211; this is a medium thickness crust, somewhat &#8220;Boboli&#8221; in nature, but when first removed from the oven, doesn&#8217;t give a hint of any type of crispness.\u00a0 It stiffens up as it cools, but never fully achieves the &#8220;crisp crust&#8221; quality I like in pizza.\u00a0 In the photo above, you&#8217;ll notice the hot slice has some &#8220;New York hang&#8221; (arrow) resulting in what I call &#8220;slide&#8221;, one of the least desirable qualities in pizza.\u00a0 I define &#8220;slide&#8221; as the process that makes a slice&#8217;s toppings slide off the crust into the box, or onto the floor or your clothing.<\/p>\n<p>The toppings are completely without any kind of character, and the heretofore mentioned &#8220;with the great taste of garlic&#8221; wasn&#8217;t noticeable to my palate.<\/p>\n<p>Cheese-stuffed crust?\u00a0 Well, you can SEE it, but you can&#8217;t really taste it or sense the texture of melted cheese in biting it.\u00a0 The cheese with the crust congeals fairly quickly with cooling, and doesn&#8217;t really add anything to the tactile or taste sensation when consuming this pie.<\/p>\n<p>As I frequently write, the posts on this site are only a reflection of my personal tastes, and obviously, Nestle sells a lot of this product, so it must appeal to the masses.<\/p>\n<p>So I&#8217;ll pass on trying this one again.<\/p>\n<p>For unique flavors and textures, I&#8217;m still fixated on the<a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/2010\/06\/home-cookin-trader-joes-frozen-pizza\/\"> imported frozen pizzas <\/a>one can find at Trader Joe&#8217;s.\u00a0 Some of the best product on the market.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been in a lot of food factories, and met a number of food &#8216;scientists.&#8217;\u00a0 I can&#8217;t help but wonder what the original conceiver\/creator of the DiGiorno pizza thinks of the product in its present form.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s Not Delivery, It&#8217;s DiGiorno&#8221;\u00a0 state the commercials for this Nestle product.\u00a0\u00a0Hmmm.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve had lots of delivered pizzas that became fleeting, one-time events in my life, and if DiGiorno wants to be placed into that category, I&#8217;m happy to\u00a0oblige them.
