{"id":4894,"date":"2011-01-10T08:10:26","date_gmt":"2011-01-10T16:10:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=4894"},"modified":"2011-01-10T08:10:26","modified_gmt":"2011-01-10T16:10:26","slug":"home-cookin-hy-top-breakfast-biscuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=4894","title":{"rendered":"Home Cookin&#8217; &#8211; Hy-Top Breakfast Biscuit"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><\/strong><\/div>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4900\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4900\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/brek3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-4900\" title=\"Hy-Top Frozen Breakfast Biscuit\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/brek3-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Hy-Top Frozen Breakfast Biscuit\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4900\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hy-Top Frozen Breakfast Biscuit<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>You know I love all\u00a0ilks \u00a0of sausage, (even <a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=4570\"><strong>llama<\/strong><\/a><strong>!) \u00a0but somehow, fast food breakfast sausage doesn&#8217;t fit into that category for me.\u00a0 If McDonalds sausage is the gold standard, all others fall below that &#8211; to me the flavor tastes just too &#8216;forced&#8217; and I can&#8217;t think of another way to describe it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>So I haven&#8217;t been a customer for frozen breakfast sandwiches &#8211; as they are almost exclusively sausage and cheese biscuits.\u00a0 I had often wondered why there wasn&#8217;t a bacon option, but recently, that choice has appeared via Jimmy Dean (Sara Lee) and Hy Top.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hy-top.com\/pages\/about_hy_top\/96.php\"><strong>Hy-Top<\/strong><\/a><strong> is a \u00a0producer and distributor of foods for independent grocery stores.\u00a0 They are based in suburban Chicago, just a stone&#8217;s throw from their parent, <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fedgroup.com\/aboutus\/aboutus.asp\"><strong>The Federated Group<\/strong><\/a><strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 Hy-Top&#8217;s website says they now make over 2,000 grocery items, from frozen pizza, to jarred salsas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I spotted their &#8220;Bacon Cheese Breakfast Biscuits&#8221; at a nearby <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wincofoods.com\/\">Winco<\/a>.\u00a0 Winco is a regional chain of independent, value-priced, grocery stores.\u00a0 Packed four to a box, individually wrapped, they are designed to be a quick, microwavable, breakfast item for our &#8216;on the go&#8217; society.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>5.5 days out of 7, we don&#8217;t have breakfast at the BurgerDogBoy household, usually reserving that for weekends.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But it&#8217;s Monday, and I&#8217;m feeling the need for a burst of caloric input and the resulting energy, so into the microwave one of the biscuits went.\u00a0\u00a0 Instructions said &#8220;2 1\/2 minutes on half power, turn, 40 seconds more, let rest before eating.&#8221;\u00a0 Yeah, like I would know how to put the microwave on &#8220;half power.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>So 2 1\/2 minutes later, out comes the biscuit off the micro carousel, and I did let it rest for at least a nano-second (to take a pic) before consuming.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It lived up to my expectations, which were slight.\u00a0 The biscuit is a little gummy, and the bacon, egg, and cheese were OK. Note the &#8216;griddle marks&#8221; on the egg? Way cool.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The post-cooked weight of this sandwich came out to 3 1\/4 ounces. I don&#8217;t know how that compares to a McDonald&#8217;s $1 sausage biscuit, which doesn&#8217;t include egg or cheese, but these would certainly be less expensive.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>They don&#8217;t retain their heat (and subsequently, their chewiness) very long, the biscuit grows hard quickly.
