{"id":4865,"date":"2011-01-04T14:43:07","date_gmt":"2011-01-04T22:43:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=4865"},"modified":"2011-01-04T14:43:07","modified_gmt":"2011-01-04T22:43:07","slug":"4865","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=4865","title":{"rendered":"Portland, OR &#8211; Lucy&#8217;s Table"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><strong> <\/strong><\/div>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4869\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4869\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/lucy4-png.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-4869\" title=\"Lucy's Table, Portland\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/lucy4-png-150x150.png\" alt=\"Lucy's Table, Portland\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4869\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lucy&#39;s Table, Portland<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Portland deal maker attorney William Du Val and I had scheduled on of our regular &#8220;lunch conferences&#8221;, and today we hit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lucystable.com\/\">Lucy&#8217;s Table <\/a>in the Uptown neighborhood of Portland.<\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lucy&#8217;s has been around awhile, and constantly gets rave reviews, tho often the reviews have to do with the &#8220;romantic ambiance&#8221; as much as the creative cuisine.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Portland is an ultra-casual town, and when one dines out in cut-offs and flip flops, one can probably find &#8220;romantic ambiance&#8221; at IHOP.\u00a0 I guess.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>An open room, with a small bar, Lucy&#8217;s is well appointed, but at the same time, there is lots of glass, so today, in the bright light, romance eluded me. (smiley face).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lucy&#8217;s describes themselves thusly:\u00a0 &#8220;Hybrid tastes of Morocco, Spain, Italy, Greece and Asia and freshly prepared with fresh northwest meats and seafood.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 And they hit the mark every time.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu, and when he didn&#8217;t know an answer, he quickly got one from the kitchen.\u00a0\u00a0Du Val went with the burger, and pronounced it spectacular.\u00a0 I would have echoed his order, but passed on the burger when I saw these three words:\u00a0 &#8220;whole wheat bun.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nah, not for me.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>So I went with the French dip, because the menu description included one of my favorite words, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Baguette\">baguette<\/a>.&#8221;\u00a0 It was described as roasted rib-eye with horseradish sauce and jus.\u00a0 It was damned near perfect, tho I would have preferred (and paid for) a double meat portion.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4870\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4870\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/lucy3png.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-4870\" title=\"Lucy's Table &quot;Chick pea fries&quot;\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/lucy3png-150x150.png\" alt=\"Lucy's Table &quot;Chick pea fries&quot;\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4870\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lucy&#39;s Table &quot;Chick pea fries&quot;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The house-made (regular) fries, ala carte, were perfect, and came<\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>with a whole grain mustard <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aioli\"><strong>aioli<\/strong><\/a><strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 I boldly went for the &#8216;chick pea fries&#8217; because I had never heard of these before, and the server described them as chick pea flour, allowed to set up, cut into strips, and deep-fried.\u00a0 They were accompanied by <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harissa\"><strong>harissa <\/strong><\/a><strong>aioli, which was very interested.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I liked these, even tho they have the texture of an extruded potato product, but granted, a lot of people like that.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>As Mrs. BDB often brings me home treats, it was my turn today, and I took her the Butternut Squash Soup with Truffled Creme Fraiche, and a slice of the flourless chocolate cake.\u00a0 No report on those yet, but I do hear chewing noises from upstairs!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I am sure they were both spectacular.\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;m eager to return to Lucy&#8217;s Table, something I don&#8217;t say that often in Portland.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>But I&#8217;ll go at night, when it&#8217;s dark, seeking out that romantic ambiance.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4871\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4871\" style=\"width: 443px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/lucy1png.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4871 \" title=\"Lucy's Table French Dip\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/lucy1png.png\" alt=\"Lucy's Table French Dip\" width=\"443\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4871\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lucy&#39;s Table French Dip<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/r\/24\/282146\/restaurant\/Nob-Hill-Uptown\/Lucys-Table-Portland\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 146px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/b\/link\/282146\/biglink.gif\" alt=\"Lucy's Table on Urbanspoon\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Portland deal maker attorney William Du Val and I had scheduled on of our regular &#8220;lunch conferences&#8221;, and today we hit Lucy&#8217;s Table in the Uptown neighborhood of Portland.
