{"id":4757,"date":"2010-12-22T08:21:36","date_gmt":"2010-12-22T16:21:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=4757"},"modified":"2010-12-22T08:21:36","modified_gmt":"2010-12-22T16:21:36","slug":"portland-or-soi9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=4757","title":{"rendered":"Portland, OR &#8211; Soi9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><strong> <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4760\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4760\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/thai2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-4760\" title=\"SOI9 Thai, Portland\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/thai2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"SOI9 Thai, Portland\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4760\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">SOI9 Thai, Portland<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>We were invited to Soi9 last night, a Thai outlet on W Burnside. \u00a0It&#8217;s crammed into a triangular shaped space, which is interesting, and with a decor that is aesthetically gentle.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I don&#8217;t care much for Thai food, \u00a0in the Americanized-style, just as I don&#8217;t care for Chinese cuisine of the same ilk. \u00a0 Spoiled by the real thing living in Asia, I find the mass palatization of these types of foods to be so far off the mark as to usually be unpleasant.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We were served a wide variety of items from the menu, starting with appetizers, plowing through several entrees, a soup, dessert, and special beverages.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The majority of the items would fall into the &#8220;sweet food&#8221; category, the balance into the &#8220;savory&#8221; category.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mrs. BDB preferred the sweet (because she is, I suppose), while I preferred the savory (altho I could more properly be classified as &#8220;bitter&#8221; and not &#8220;savory&#8221;.)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Not much of the food was &#8220;hot&#8221;, tho the plain noodle dish, with &#8220;tamarind&#8221; sauce, had the most kick to it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The servers were courteous and helpful.
