{"id":4493,"date":"2010-11-18T10:16:05","date_gmt":"2010-11-18T18:16:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=4493"},"modified":"2010-11-18T10:16:05","modified_gmt":"2010-11-18T18:16:05","slug":"burbank-ca-chili-johns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=4493","title":{"rendered":"Burbank, CA \u2013 Chili John\u2019s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4495\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4495\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/chili1png.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4495\" title=\"Chili Johns Burbank\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/chili1png-300x186.png\" alt=\"Chili Johns Burbank\" width=\"300\" height=\"186\" \/><\/a><\/strong><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4495\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chili Johns Burbank<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>When the hot dog meister of\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DomoDogs\">Portland Domo Dog<\/a> Guy tells me &#8220;you gotta try this place,&#8221; I&#8217;m always gonna endeavor to get to to the location he named, pronto-like. \u00a0 But there was no hurry in the case of Chili John&#8217;s, as it has been operating continuously since 1900. \u00a0Guess they are around to stay.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I ambled in just past the noon hour, but the u-shaped counter was still nearly full of grinning chili-heads. \u00a0We&#8217;re talking &#8220;Texas-style&#8221; chili here, not the kind that grow.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>You can order your chili with meat, chicken, or veggie-style, add beans if you like, have it atop rice, pasta, a hot dog, or a bun. \u00a0I went with the dog and the bun style.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The counter man graciously offered me the opportunity to sample before I bought, but I retorted, &#8220;Are you kidding? \u00a0Domo Dog Budd recommended this place!&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>And with that, he went about assembling and placing my order in front of me. \u00a0Chili John&#8217;s doesn&#8217;t dilute their flavor experience by offering chips or fries, oh no, but there are complimentary bowls of oyster crackers on the counter, as well as a few condiments. \u00a0 A bowl of diced onion (your vegetables) is within reach, and, on occasion, sweet pickle slices, which, although I do not usually care for them, complimented the chili nicely.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>No surprise, as usual, I over ordered, and ended up eating most of the chili, part of the dog, and a bite of each bun just for<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4496\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4496\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/chili6.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-4496\" title=\"Chili Johns Burbank\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/chili6-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Chili Johns Burbank\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/strong><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4496\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chili Johns Burbank<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong> sampling comparison.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The regular chili is thick with meat and not much else. \u00a0It comes in mild, medium or hot, I chose medium, and it has a tolerable kick to it (I am a wimp about such things). \u00a0 The beef is the consistency of pulled pork, ample bits, tender as all get out, and flavorful past the point you&#8217;d think anyone could squeeze out of chili.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I loved it.
