{"id":4460,"date":"2010-11-07T05:20:12","date_gmt":"2010-11-07T13:20:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=4460"},"modified":"2010-11-07T05:20:12","modified_gmt":"2010-11-07T13:20:12","slug":"green-acres-oregon-home-cooked-meal-from-the-farm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=4460","title":{"rendered":"Green Acres, Oregon &#8211; Home Cooked Meal from the Farm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>We invited ourselves down to see some old friends of mine, who are living the &#8216;Green Acres&#8221; life on a small working farm near Newport, Oregon. \u00a0 I&#8217;ve know the man for longer than Mrs. BurgerDogBoy has been on this planet, and while we have become good electronic friends of late, until recently, I had not seen him in all those years; nor met the lovely Mrs. Green Acres.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>They raise sheep for meat and wool (<a href=\"http:\/\/brenalanfarm.wordpress.com\/\">you can buy their wool, and their lamb meat<\/a>), all things fowl, a llama, as well as grow a thing or two, as well as harvest nature&#8217;s bounty in the wild, when they have the opportunity. \u00a0No Arnold Ziffel this year, but they have in the past<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mrs and Mrs Green Acres \u00a0prepared a lovely repast. \u00a0I can&#8217;t remember when I have been so smitten by a multi-course dinner on every single level, both for the dining and the companionship.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We started with a wild mushroom soup, moved on to braised venison and sauteed vegetables; \u00a0lovely kale with the previous year&#8217;s Ziffel as seasoning \u00a0(yes, Mrs. BDB, I saw you picking out chunks of pork!), \u00a0local crawfish cocktail, artisan bread from the <a href=\" http:\/\/www.thefreshloaf.com\/node\/19733\/mobile-bakery\">local (mobile!) baker<\/a>, and finishing up with some wonderful cheeses from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cypressgrovechevre.com\/\">Cypress Grove Cheese<\/a> company in Arcata, CA. \u00a0What a treat, all of it. \u00a0 Every dish was a melange of complex flavors and textures that all blended together marvelously.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Plus they packed us a goody back to take home, some leftovers, turkey\/chicken\/duck eggs, and other goodies. \u00a0 They prepared one meal for us, but fed us for a week!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>If all the hard work of managing a farm wasn&#8217;t enough for them, they have also started a <a href=\"http:\/\/yaquinawavelength.com\/\">local weekly newspaper<\/a>. \u00a0 Very ambitious people whom I admire very much. \u00a0And not to forget, Mrs. Green Acres is in training to be a volunteer fire fighter.
