{"id":18177,"date":"2018-05-27T13:14:48","date_gmt":"2018-05-27T18:14:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=18177"},"modified":"2018-05-27T13:14:48","modified_gmt":"2018-05-27T18:14:48","slug":"7-eleven-frozen-pizza-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=18177","title":{"rendered":"7-Eleven Frozen Pizza Review &#8211; Nationwide"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>7-Eleven Frozen Pizza Review<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/7-eleven.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18181\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-18181\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/7-eleven-300x219.jpg\" alt=\"7-Eleven Frozen Pizza Review\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A few years back, 7-Eleven made\u00a0some rather dramatic decisions &#8211; to go into the hot, ready to eat food business and to replace many of the standard\u00a0shelf\u00a0offerings with house brand merchandise (\u00a07-Select).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Both moves appear to have been very successful.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">With a history that dates back to the 1920s, and originally named the &#8220;Tote &#8216;m Stores,&#8221; the company which had started as an ice retailer, added items and stores until changing their name to 7-Eleven in 1946. Continued growth through the next few decades showed success but also added huge amounts of debt to the company, and in 1990, entered a pre-packaged bankruptcy during which 70% of the company was spun off to Japanese retail giant\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.7andi.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ito-Yokado<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Today there are 64,000 stores in 18 countries.\u00a0 Think there are a lot of them in your town?\u00a0 Tokyo has 2,600!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The addition of the hot food came around 10 years ago (not including roller grill foods, which debuted earlier),\u00a0 and it was a store-elective, as in order<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_18182\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18182\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/7-eleven-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18182\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-18182\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/7-eleven-1-150x117.jpg\" alt=\"7-Eleven Frozen Pizza Review\" width=\"150\" height=\"117\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18182\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Grab and go food counter<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>to be competitive, outlets were required to purchase <a href=\"https:\/\/www.turbochef.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Turbo Chef ovens<\/a> (retail between $7-$10,000) which can cook a frozen pizza in 90 seconds. Pizza was followed by baked snack offerings like wings and tenders.<\/p>\n<p>Pizzas are sold by the slice or whole and with promotional prices as low as $5 for an entire pie.<\/p>\n<p>The pies are also available in the frozen foods cooler, competing with national brands. There are (that I have seen) three varieties, Supreme, Pepperoni, and Cheese.\u00a0 These retail for between $5-6.<\/p>\n<p>They are a &#8220;medium&#8221; thick crust pizza and are reminiscent of brands like Tony&#8217;s, and Red Baron, which shouldn&#8217;t be surprising, as the frozen pizzas are manufactured for 7-Eleven at a Schwan&#8217;s plant.\u00a0 The plant (pictured below) is in Sydney, OH, about 60 miles NW of Columbus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It&#8217;s a mass appeal product, nothing too extreme in flavors,\u00a0 but if you&#8217;re paying around\u00a0 $5, it&#8217;s a good value.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I&#8217;ve only had them a couple of times, in both incidences, I distinctly remember occurring because I was too lazy to go into a big grocery.\u00a0 I guess that is one thing 7-Eleven is counting on.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Aoubt 15 minutes at 425 and they are ready to go.\u00a0 Other house brand products I&#8217;ve tried in the past, include the <a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/2015\/08\/7-eleven-meat-snack-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">meat snacks<\/a> (their version of a Slim Jim), h<a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/2012\/11\/7-eleven-fresh-go-cheeseburger-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eat and eat burgers<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/2013\/09\/7-eleven-fresh-to-go-sandwiches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fresh sandwiches<\/a> (which at least in the Pacific NW are made by Lufthansa&#8217;s catering division in Seattle).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">If you&#8217;re outside of the U.S. in one of those 18 countries that 7-Eleven has stores, take a peek in one, they have some fun stuff. Particularly in Asia!\u00a0 The Japanese parent has some marvelous department stores across Asia as well, operating under the names of <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.seibu.jp\/usrinfo\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Seibu<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sogo.com.hk\/cwb\/en\/home\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sogo<\/a>.
