{"id":17107,"date":"2017-05-18T10:31:30","date_gmt":"2017-05-18T15:31:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=17107"},"modified":"2017-05-18T10:31:30","modified_gmt":"2017-05-18T15:31:30","slug":"taqueria-las-cumbres-review-crystal-lake-il","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=17107","title":{"rendered":"Taqueria Las Cumbres Review, Crystal Lake, IL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/1-Taqueria_de_las_cumbresCrystal_Lake_.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17112\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-17112\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/1-Taqueria_de_las_cumbresCrystal_Lake_-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Taqueria Las Cumbres Review\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>I rarely go out for Mexican food in the US for the same reason I rarely seek out Chinese cuisine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Pretty sure I&#8217;ll be disappointed by either, as having lived and traveled so extensively, just have become a fan of the &#8220;Americanized&#8221; version of these two foods.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">But once and awhile, you run into a mom and pop, hole in the wall, mini-eatery where you can enjoy the most authentic dishes (as well as the aforementioned Americanized ones), and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.taquerialascumbres.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Taqueria Las Cumbres<\/a> in Crystal Lake, is one such experience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This is a very small restaurant (in terms of seating) but also seems to do a very brisk take-out business. \u00a0It&#8217;s parked next to a Mexican style bakery on one of the main streets of downtown Crystal Lake, IL, a fairly white distant suburb of Chicago. Latino population has been growing over the last decade, and is currently estimated at about 12 % so there&#8217;s a market for &#8220;authentic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I was really happy with my meal, even tho is was a gringo-centric burrito. It was\/they are huge tho, and I could only finish half of it at the restaurant.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I also enjoyed Mexican style corn-on-the cob, which is lathered with a mayo-cheese-chili pepper mix.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Complimentary chips and salsa for starters, and I&#8217;m confident both are made in house.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Tasty. Great value.
