Good ham. Not that chopped, pressed and formed in\u00a0a slurry, pushed thru a mold deli slices like at Subway or grocery deli counters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">No, honest\u00a0to goodness hog muscle, carefully cured and aged. I&#8217;ve driven the\u00a0backroads of Kentucky, Virginia and other states in search of small\u00a0producers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I&#8217;ve had the pleasure of consuming &#8216;melt in your mouth&#8217; jamon serrano\u00a0at the Museum of Ham in Madrid. Same with Italian prosciutto.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">And now I&#8217;ve found an American producer I can really get behind,\u00a0Kentucky&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.broadbenthams.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Broadbent Foods<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">They&#8217;ve had it figured out for over 100 years, so much so they\u00a0are constantly winning state and national competitions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Available in &#8220;country&#8221; or &#8220;city&#8221; styles (the latter being a milder\u00a0cure), you can purchase Broadbent hams in nearly any type of\u00a0configuration you choose: whole, half, sliced, cooked, bone-in,\u00a0boneless, uncooked, steaks, biscuit slices, seasoning bits and ground.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">They also produce some mighty fine bacon and smoked sausages.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I loved their country ham, purchased slices and steaks. The cure\u00a0provides for a stronger hog taste (I personally think meat should taste like\u00a0the animals it comes from, especially beef and pork), and great texture.
