I like Gracie\u2019s<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 My first exposure to it was my wife picked it for a birthday outing for me two years ago, and now it\u2019s a regular stop for me.\u00a0\u00a0 The d\u00e9cor is \u201cold Hollywood\u201d,\u00a0 and, with the exception of too many windows, I can sit there and imagine myself back at Musso & Frank<\/a>, my favorite restaurant in the whole world.<\/p>\n

Gracie\u2019s describes themselves thusly on their own website:<\/p>\n

This Portland eatery embraces classic American culinary tastes and traditions that pay homage to fine dining in the Golden Era of Hollywood. Our menu blends the very best of fresh Pacific Northwest ingredients with selections that are both at once surprising and familiar.<\/em><\/p>\n

They offer a \u201cbrunch menu<\/a>\u201d daily, from opening through lunch, which includes traditional breakfast offerings as well as great sandwiches and entrees.\u00a0 Dinner begins at 5.<\/p>\n

The restaurant is located in the architecturally significant Hotel DeLuxe<\/a>, which has these interesting \"gracies4png\"<\/a>stone murals on the outside,\u00a0 I have asked a number of people the significance of them, but \u00a0have come up empty as to their meaning.<\/p>\n

My lunch?\u00a0 Why the burger, of course.\u00a0 Grilled organic beef, medium rare, with very nice blue cheese, on a slightly sweet but not quite brioche roll, \u00a0with a massive order of hand-cut fries included.\u00a0 Service was attentive but not overbearing.<\/p>\n

The burger was superb.\u00a0 So was my company, one of the city\u2019s real hot-shot attorneys.\u00a0 Always a pleasure to spend time with you, Bill.<\/p>\n
