Son BBQ Review\" width=\"230\" height=\"219\" \/><\/a>Rolling down I-20 Eastbound the other day, I happened into\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG\u00a0<\/span>Spring, Texas, on or about lunch time.\u00a0\u00a0(In all candor, it\u2019s always mealtime for me).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Heading down Gregg Street from the Interstate, I perused my\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG\u00a0<\/span>choices \u2013 Burger\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">KING<\/span>, home of the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">WHOPPER<\/span>,<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0BIG<\/span>\u00a0John\u2019s Feed Lot,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">GREAT<\/span>\u00a0Wall, and then I spotted it &#8211;\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG<\/span>\u00a0Al\u2019s and Son Bar-B-Q.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I was greeted by an amiable server, and told the \u201crules\u201d for dining at\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG<\/span>\u00a0Al\u2019s.\u00a0Proceed to the counter\/serving station, choose the lunch plate or the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG<\/span>\u00a0platter, and depending on whether you choose the lunch plate or\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG\u00a0<\/span>platter, you have a choice of two or four meats, or any combination thereof.\u00a0\u00a0Pulled pork, my personal favorite, is seldom on the menu in Texas Q restaurants, so the choices were sausage, brisket, chicken,ribs,\u00a0and\/or \u201cbodacious\u201d ham.\u00a0\u00a0I eschewed the ribs and chicken and loaded up on the other three. \u00a0At\u00a0$8.95 for the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG<\/span>\u00a0platter, I got to choose three vegetables (green beans, collard greens and corn on the cob won out), received a thick slab of Texas toast (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG<\/span>), ample amounts of butter, a choice of peach, apple, or cherry cobbler, and a\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG<\/span>\u00a0drink.\u00a0\u00a0Dave Thomas wudda been proud.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">My amiable server continued to provide me with\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG\u00a0<\/span>service throughout the meal, refilling my iced tea without being asked, and continually reminding me to save room for a\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG\u00a0<\/span>serving of home-made ice cream, which they whip up every morning.\u00a0\u00a0He also extolled the virtues of other things on offer, wh<a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Als2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15735\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-15735\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Als2.jpg\" alt=\"Al &amp; Son BBQ Review\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a>ich he encouraged me to try next time.\u00a0\u00a0Among which was a\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG<\/span>\u00a0serving of Steak Fingers, which, according to my server, were MUCH better than Dairy Queen\u2019s!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The brisket, sausage and ham were superb.\u00a0\u00a0That dry-rub slow smoking process that Texas Q is famous for.\u00a0\u00a0While most Texas Q\u2019s don\u2019t\u00a0offer sauce (and the meat doesn\u2019t need it),\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG<\/span>\u00a0Al\u2019s had a choice of several one could use as accompaniments.\u00a0\u00a0I passed on them.\u00a0\u00a0I like to taste the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG<\/span>\u00a0flavor of the meat.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">As my eyes started to glaze over, and the ice cream was starting to melt, I put a\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG<\/span>\u00a0bill on the table and motioned for the server to come over.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">He said, \u201cWhat, you want some change?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0And I said, \u201cNo, that\u2019s for you.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0His reply was \u201cI don\u2019t need that much!\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I said, \u201cYou may not need it, you may not want it, but you did earn it,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG<\/span>\u00a0time.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG<\/span>\u00a0Al\u2019s is open for lunch and dinner most days, if you find yourself in\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG<\/span>\u00a0Spring.\u00a0\u00a01810 South Gregg Street,\u00a0\u00a0(915) 267-8921.If you find yourself there without a car, and call the restaurant,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG\u00a0<\/span>Al\u2019s will send somebody to pick you up, so you can enjoy the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG<\/span>\u00a0platter, and\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BIG\u00a0<\/span>Texas hospitality.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Update: Big Al&#8217;s is formally\u00a0 known as Al &amp;
