{"id":13469,"date":"2015-01-28T12:26:15","date_gmt":"2015-01-28T18:26:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=13469"},"modified":"2015-01-28T12:26:15","modified_gmt":"2015-01-28T18:26:15","slug":"cento-pizza-sauce-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=13469","title":{"rendered":"Cento Pizza Sauce Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/cento.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-13471\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/cento-198x300.jpg\" alt=\"Cento Pizza Sauce Review\" width=\"133\" height=\"202\" \/><\/a>I&#8217;m always scouring the grocery shelves for pizza ingredients I haven&#8217;t tried before; \u00a0this week it is Cento brand. \u00a0I have previously tried a number of competitors, including <a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/2014\/10\/pastorelli-pizza-sauce-review-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pastorelli<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/2014\/09\/mutti-pizza-sauce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mutti<\/a>, and one of my usuals, <a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/2014\/04\/homemade-pizza-recipe-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Contadina<\/a> in a squeeze bottle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"www.cento.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cento<\/a> was founded in 1963 in the city of brotherly love, initially as an importer of Italian products. \u00a0If you&#8217;ve never cruised the old-timey Italian restaurants in Philly, you&#8217;ve missed out. \u00a0About 20 years later, they started putting out products under their own name. \u00a0They have a very <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cento.com\/centobrand\/centobrandhistory.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deep line of tomato<\/a> products, whole, crushed, seasoned, paste and so on.<\/p>\n<p>On the website, they tout their tomato products are fresh picked from the vine, and some are the highly regarded San Marzanos from Italy, but there is no reference to whether this includes the pizza sauce. \u00a0The ingredients on the sauce label are straightforward:\u00a0<em>water, tomato concentrate, olive oil, salt, basil, black pepper, garlic powder<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I like it for two reasons, it has a slight acidic taste (which is natural for tomatoes), is not cloyingly sweet like many competitors who add sweeteners to their recipe, and it has a heft\/thickness that appeals to me for putting on my pies. \u00a0More appealing than the watery \u00a0sauces. \u00a0Objection? \u00a0It&#8217;s a 15 oz can, which is way more than one needs for a single pizza, maybe they could do the squeeze bottle thing like Contadina? \u00a0Then I&#8217;d be a regular.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/20150127_091744.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-13470\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/20150127_091744-1024x850.jpg\" alt=\"Cento pizza sauce review\" width=\"431\" height=\"358\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cento Pizza Sauce Review<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m always scouring the grocery shelves for pizza ingredients I haven&#8217;t tried before; \u00a0this week it is Cento brand. \u00a0I have previously tried a number of competitors, including Pastorelli, Mutti, and one of my usuals, Contadina in a squeeze bottle.
