{"id":13378,"date":"2015-01-15T09:11:49","date_gmt":"2015-01-15T15:11:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=13378"},"modified":"2015-01-15T09:11:49","modified_gmt":"2015-01-15T15:11:49","slug":"grandmas-saloon-grill-poutine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=13378","title":{"rendered":"Grandmas Saloon and Grill Poutine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/FullSizeRender-11.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-13379\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/FullSizeRender-11-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Grandmas Saloon and Grill\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>My home town, Duluth, Minnesota, is a couple hours from the Canadian border, and heavily dependent upon Canadians for its economy &#8211; shopping, medical care, and \u00a0tourism.<\/p>\n<p>In all the decades I lived there, Canadians were welcome, and even when exchange rates weren&#8217;t favorable for the neighbors to the north, Duluth merchants happily accepted the currency at par.<\/p>\n<p>The one thing the city never did do was feature &#8220;Canadian cuisine,&#8221; (or beer) but in the past few years, that&#8217;s started to change, with a number of restaurant offering the national snack of Canada, poutine, and also a new addition that offers <a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/2014\/02\/shortys-pizza-and-smoked-meat-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Montreal Smoked Meat<\/a>, another Canadian favorite.<\/p>\n<p>Now it&#8217;s time for long term restaurateur <a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?s=Grandma&amp;search=Search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grandma&#8217;s Saloon and Grill <\/a>to add their version of poutine, as an LTO. Sold as an appetizer on the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.grandmasrestaurants.com\/menus\/northern-comfort-cs.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northern Comfort&#8221; menu<\/a>, Grandma&#8217;s takes crispy fries, tops them with deep fried cheddar curds from <a href=\"http:\/\/shop.deliveryfix.com\/Kaufholds-Cheese-Curds-FARM041.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kaufhold&#8217;s of Ellsworth<\/a>, WI, and adds their house made gravy.<\/p>\n<p>Grandma&#8217;s fries were hot, crispy and seasoned perfectly, the house made gravy perfect. \u00a0A problem?
