{"id":13252,"date":"2014-12-30T15:03:55","date_gmt":"2014-12-30T21:03:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=13252"},"modified":"2014-12-30T15:03:55","modified_gmt":"2014-12-30T21:03:55","slug":"exchange-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=13252","title":{"rendered":"Minneapolis &#8211;  Exchange Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Convenient to my hotel, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exchangefoodanddrink.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Exchange Food &amp; Drink <\/a>in Brooklyn Center, MN (suburban Twin Cities) seemed like a good location to tote a big group, of all different ages and palates. \u00a0 Mostly, it was. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.exchangefoodanddrink.com\/menu.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The menu<\/a> features sandwiches, &#8216;bar food,&#8217; burgers, salads, and a few entrees.<\/p>\n<p>Exchange is &#8216;mildly spendy&#8217; but fairly large servings.<\/p>\n<p>The food was generally well received by our party of ten, and there were no delays in serving the entire party,which is good.<\/p>\n<p>I had the Cuban sandwich, which followed the traditional recipe (made with ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard), but the kitchen tamps it down with a panini press. \u00a0It was a little &#8220;over-panini-ed,&#8221; \u00a0and the bread wasn&#8217;t very reminiscent of a traditional &#8220;Cuban bread,&#8221; usually used for this sandwich.<\/p>\n<p>I have to call the restaurant on a couple things:<\/p>\n<p>1) &#8220;Angus burger&#8221; \u00a0is not a designation that means anything, as 80% of the beef cattle in America are angus. \u00a0If you see &#8220;angus&#8221; on a menu you can yawn. \u00a0If you see &#8220;certified black angus&#8221; you can smile.<\/p>\n<p>2) &#8220;House cut fries&#8221; &#8211; \u00a0they must have been out of them, as the fries that came with the sandwiches were not house cut or cut anywhere for that matter. \u00a0They were an extruded fry, made from a mashed potato slurry, pushed through a mold, flash fried and quick frozen before being shipping to the restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, in a world where everyone has become a foodie (or critic), it&#8217;s always disappointing to find a wait staff that isn&#8217;t very knowledgeable about a menu or ingredients &#8211; nor do they offer to go check with the kitchen, instead punting their way through a non-answer. \u00a0Oh well.<\/p>\n<p>Should you go? \u00a0Sure, why not, especially as it is an oasis in an area that is fairly lacking in restaurants. \u00a0Should you make a special trip? \u00a0That&#8217;s up to you. \u00a0I wouldn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13239\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13239\" style=\"width: 413px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/20141227_193134.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-13239\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/20141227_193134-1024x595.jpg\" alt=\"Exchange Food and Drinks Review\" width=\"413\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13239\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cuban Sandwich<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/r\/29\/1897035\/restaurant\/Twin-Cities\/Exchange-Food-Drink-New-Brighton\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none; width: 200px; height: 146px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/b\/link\/1897035\/biglink.gif\" alt=\"Exchange Food &amp; Drink on Urbanspoon\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nExchange Review<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Convenient to my hotel, the Exchange Food &amp; Drink in Brooklyn Center, MN (suburban Twin Cities) seemed like a good location to tote a big group, of all different ages and palates. \u00a0 Mostly, it was. \u00a0The menu features sandwiches, &#8216;bar food,&#8217; burgers, salads, and a few entrees.
