{"id":12383,"date":"2014-10-14T08:19:07","date_gmt":"2014-10-14T15:19:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=12383"},"modified":"2014-10-14T08:19:07","modified_gmt":"2014-10-14T15:19:07","slug":"trader-joes-chocolate-croissants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=12383","title":{"rendered":"Trader Joes Chocolate Croissants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/tj1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-12385\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/tj1.jpg\" alt=\"http:\/\/www.raileurope.com\/europe-travel-guide\/france\/paris\/train-station\/est-train-station.html\" width=\"189\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a>I haven&#8217;t been in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.traderjoes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trader Joe&#8217;s<\/a> for awhile. \u00a0Not sure why, wasn&#8217;t an intentional thing unless you count the frustration of parking at many of them. \u00a0 No, just circumstance. \u00a0 Kinda odd actually, since I think they have some of the <a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/2010\/05\/home-cookin-trader-joes-mushroom-pizza\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">best frozen pizzas<\/a> (imported from Italy and France) available, and something I had forgotten about, their frozen chocolate croissants.<\/p>\n<p>Croissants came to me fairly late in life, when I was partners with an American woman living in Europe. \u00a0We had a place in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leysin.ch\/en\/index.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leysin, Switzerland<\/a>, and after a few globe trotting years relocated to Paris, just off the<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rue_Saint-Denis_(Paris)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Rue Saint Denis<\/a>, in the 10th. \u00a0We were just a down the street from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.raileurope.com\/europe-travel-guide\/france\/paris\/train-station\/est-train-station.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gare de L&#8217;est<\/a>, \u00a0one of the city&#8217;s train stations, and handy for popping around the rest of Europe. \u00a0In both Leysin and Paris, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pain_au_chocolat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pain au chocolates<\/a> (not really a croissant) were a big part of our morning routine, walking down to the patisserie or bistro or tabac to have one along with an espresso or six.<\/p>\n<p>Trader Joes does an outstanding job of replicating that experience, although you&#8217;d never expect that when opening the box and pouring out the four little rock hard nuggets of dough; you have to let them thaw and rise on the counter overnight, so they are not really an impulse item (well, they are to buy, just not to eat).<\/p>\n<p>After you let them thaw, pop them into a pre-heated oven for 20-25 minutes, the box cautions you that if they are &#8220;light brown&#8221;
