{"id":11283,"date":"2014-04-12T11:56:50","date_gmt":"2014-04-12T18:56:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=11283"},"modified":"2014-04-12T11:56:50","modified_gmt":"2014-04-12T18:56:50","slug":"morning-call-restaurant-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=11283","title":{"rendered":"New Orleans, LA &#8211; Morning Call Restaurant Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/morning.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-11285\" alt=\"Morning Call New Orleans\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/morning-300x188.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a>The &#8220;official state donut&#8221; of the State of Louisiana, the beignet (ben-yaa) has become synonymous with the stereotypical tourist stop in New Orleans at a joint in the French Quarter called &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cafedumonde.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cafe du Monde<\/a>.&#8221; \u00a0The pastries, developed by French bakers, use a type of dough that rises due to its own steam, rather than from yeast. \u00a0This type of baking is called &#8220;choux&#8221; pastries.<\/p>\n<p>French settlers brought the tradition during their immigration to Eastern Canada, and their later forced migration to Louisiana.<\/p>\n<p>The fried delicacies are generally sold in an order of three, accompanied by a shaker of powdered sugar and a steaming cup of cafe au lait or other local beverage.<\/p>\n<p>While most visitors experience the pastry at the aforementioned stop, the sweet delights are widely available. \u00a0An alternate choice is an old-timey stand in Metarie, &#8216;Morning Call&#8221;, which is open 24\/7 and is the local gathering place for die-hard denizens, particularly judges and lawyers.<\/p>\n<p>Morning Call now has a location in City Park, easily accessible to tourists via the Carrolton street car which you can catch on Canal.
