{"id":10797,"date":"2014-01-17T13:11:56","date_gmt":"2014-01-17T21:11:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=10797"},"modified":"2014-01-17T13:11:56","modified_gmt":"2014-01-17T21:11:56","slug":"sweet-savory-fried-chicken-recipe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=10797","title":{"rendered":"Sweet and Savory Fried Chicken Recipe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As you can probably surmise, I&#8217;m always screwing around in the kitchen, looking for a different way to do prepare something. \u00a0Today I stumbled onto a method that I think is good enough to share.<\/p>\n<p>Someone gave me a canister of &#8220;honey wheat&#8221; pretzels, which ordinarily I wouldn&#8217;t think of buying or consuming, I generally like my sweet and savory flavors to keep their distance from each other. \u00a0I sampled a couple, they weren&#8217;t that bad, nor that sweet, and I was getting ready to make some fried chicken when the proverbial light bulb went off &#8211; why not use the pretzels as fried chicken coating? \u00a0So I did, and the results were delightful.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the dope:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 C pulsed fine honey wheat pretzels<\/li>\n<li>1 T Tony Chachere Creole Seasoning<\/li>\n<li>1 C \u00a0plain flour<\/li>\n<li>2 \u00a0eggs beaten<\/li>\n<li>2 C your preferred frying oil<\/li>\n<li>Chicken parts of your choosing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pour the plain flour onto a plate<\/p>\n<p>Beat the eggs and pour onto a plate<\/p>\n<p>Combine the pretzel flour and creole seasoning in a plastic bag<\/p>\n<p>Dredge the chicken pieces in flour, dredge in the egg was, and toss into the bag that has the pretzel mix. \u00a0Shake vigorously.<\/p>\n<p>Bring the oil to frying temp in a deep pan, and place the chicken pieces in to fry. \u00a0Turn frequently and cook to your preferred temp.<\/p>\n<p>I cooked legs and wings about 12 minutes and boneless breasts about 18, which is a little longer than most recipes suggest, but the thick coating keeps the meat moist, even with these cooking times.<\/p>\n<p>Remove from heat, let cool on a rack for ten minutes prior to consuming.<\/p>\n<p>I really enjoyed this &#8216;mistake&#8217;, \u00a0the coating was not to thick, not to thin, there was a hint of sweetness from the honey pretzels, and a little salty kick from the Creole seasoning. \u00a0Give it a try!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/20140117_125522.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-10799\" alt=\"Fried Chicken Recipe\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/20140117_125522-1024x946.jpg\" width=\"430\" height=\"398\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Fried Chicken Recipe<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As you can probably surmise, I&#8217;m always screwing around in the kitchen, looking for a different way to do prepare something. \u00a0Today I stumbled onto a method that I think is good enough to share.
