{"id":10713,"date":"2014-11-18T07:01:54","date_gmt":"2014-11-18T13:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/?p=10713"},"modified":"2014-11-18T07:01:54","modified_gmt":"2014-11-18T13:01:54","slug":"fried-onion-burger-recipe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.peterstromquist.com\/?p=10713","title":{"rendered":"Fried Onion Burger Recipe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every year, in El Reno, Oklahoma, they hold the <a href=\"http:\/\/elrenoburgerday.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fried Onion Burger Festival<\/a>; they&#8217;ve been cooking up their special recipe burgers for nigh onto fifty years or more. \u00a0Local favorites include <a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/2010\/10\/el-reno-ok-onion-burger-v-onion-dog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert&#8217;s Grill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I had a fancy to whip some up at home recently, with mixed results.<\/p>\n<p>In Oklahoma, a handful of fresh ground is placed on a flattop, smashed, smother with onions, and cooked until crispy. \u00a0That was my intent as well.<\/p>\n<p>I started with freshly sliced white onions, sweated in butter in a cast iron skillet, and took a course ground 1\/4 pound of 85\/15 and smashed it on the onions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/20131231_070317.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-10716\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/20131231_070317-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Fried Onion Burger Recipe\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/20131231_071551.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-10717\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/20131231_071551-300x228.jpg\" alt=\"Fried Onion Burger Recipe\" width=\"300\" height=\"228\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I over cooked them, intentionally, trying to get the crispy edges and crust that the Okie burger purveyors serve up, but wasn&#8217;t successful. \u00a0I dressed them with mustard and house made pickles, and achieved a close proximity to the OK version. \u00a0I think a hotter skillet from the onset would have made the difference. \u00a0Very tasty, nonetheless!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/20131231_072513.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-10719\" src=\"http:\/\/burgersdogspizza.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/20131231_072513-1024x927.jpg\" alt=\"Fried Onion Burger Recipe\" width=\"430\" height=\"389\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">fried onion burger recipe<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every year, in El Reno, Oklahoma, they hold the Fried Onion Burger Festival; they&#8217;ve been cooking up their special recipe burgers for nigh onto fifty years or more. \u00a0Local favorites include Robert&#8217;s Grill.
